The James Webb Space Telescope was launched into space six months ago, and has now delivered images of some of the earliest galaxies to ever exist. The telescope allows scientists to travel back in time to within a billion years after the big bang and observe galaxies whose light hast taken billions of years to reach Earth. The telescope was able to capture 48 different galaxies (B) at one time, cosmic cliffs (C), as well as a dying star (A). The blue galaxies contain stars, but very little dust, the red objects are covered by thick layers of dust, and the green galaxies contain hydrocarbons and other chemical compounds.
British Astronomer Professor Glazebrook says,
“We are seeing a wide range of colours we haven’t seen before in the early universe".
