A deadly pool that pickles animals alive has been discovered underwater. The pool is devoid of oxygen and contains three- eight times the amount of concentrated saline as the ocean around. Any animals that enter are immediately killed or stunned due to these lethal levels of saline. The find may help scientists make discoveries about the original formation of Earth's oceans and even space. Professor Sam Purkis of the University of Miami, who found the pool, said "Until we understand the limits of life on Earth, it will be difficult to determine if alien planets can host any living beings". Researchers have even found a crab that had its soft tissue intact despite being dead for eight years. The pool may also contain toxic chemicals such as hydrogen sulphide.
